When In Rome: Part One

I recently took a girls trip to Rome for my 20th birthday! We had so much fun I thought I’d share with you what we got up to each day in a separate post so that I can give lots of detail and share lots of pictures…

Day One:

We arrived at the Sweet Life Guest House around midday, after flying from London Stansted to Rome Ciampino. The hotel/guest house was part of an authentic old apartment block, next to a chinese takeaway called Mr Chow and with a seriously scary lift (think Disney’s Tower of Terror!). We put our bags down while we were waiting for our room to be ready and headed to a restaurant across the road for some lunch. Of course we had to have pasta! I had penne with pork ragu and a large glass of celebratory Pinot. We also picked up some lovely looking cakes from the bakery inside. Feeling stuffed we walked back to the hotel to get changed, ready to explore!

We headed out for a walk, ending up at the gorgeous Fontana Di Trevi! Possibly the most beautiful fountain I’ve ever seen. We spent a while here, throwing coins and taking pictures. I really recommend going to Rome at this time of year (February) as there was hardly any tourists around and we weren’t crammed in at the fountain.

I loved the Trevi Fountain, so stunning and romantic. If you’re looking for it in Rome you just need to follow your ears for the sound of the water flowing and you’ll find it.

Hungry again, we found an adorable restaurant covered in vinery and plants outside. I ordered carbonara and some more Pinot Grigio. It was honestly so delicious and rich that I couldn’t finish it all! On the way out we discovered pictures of famous people that had eaten there in the past – including Mariah Carey!

Next up we were all craving cocktails and found a restaurant/bar willing to make us whatever we wanted! We sat outside under the outdoor heaters for a while, drinking and chatting. We discovered we were right near the Spanish Steps! We stumbled home after drinks with pizza in hand from a street vendor…
